SmartStax® PRO technology (pending regulatory approvals) will represent the next generation of corn rootworm control for farmers. Get to know more about this technology and see how it will help protect your corn.
HOW WILL SMARTSTAX® PRO TECHNOLOGY IMPROVE ON SMARTSTAX® TECHNOLOGY?
SmartStax® technology contains two Bt proteins (Cry34Ab1/Cry35Ab1 and Cry3Bb1) creating two modes of action against corn rootworm. SmartStax® PRO technology will build on that proven technology by using those same proteins and adding a new mode of action through RNAi — the first in the industry. This third mode of action will help increase a farmer’s ability to control corn rootworm, and at the same time it will also help increase the durability of the SmartStax® PRO trait.
WHY IS RNAi IMPORTANT?
Bayer is the first to develop RNAi technology, which will introduce a new, unique mode of action against corn rootworm. The more modes of action your corn has, the better protection you will have against the billion-dollar bug.
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS TECHNOLOGY?
Corn rootworm has the ability to cause significant damage to a crop. Damaged roots impact a plant’s nutrient and water uptake, and increase the risk of root lodging. Farmers forced to harvest downed corn because of this pest continue to seek solutions that help them stay one step ahead. SmartStax® PRO technology — by introducing a new mode of action — will have the potential to provide even better corn rootworm protection for farmers across the nation and help them maximize their yield potential.
